Privacy policy

Makan? does not have accounts. We do not ask for your name, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising.
What we collect
- Your location — only when you allow it, to show places near you and to check that votes and photos come from the place they are about. We do not keep a history of where you have been.
- Photos you upload, with the place they were taken at. Photos may show people in the background; please aim at the signboard.
- A random device ID stored in a cookie (
mk_d). It is not linked to your identity. We store only a one-way hash of it, used to limit spam and count unique visitors. - Your contributions: votes, dish picks, reports and feedback. Feedback includes any contact detail you choose to give.
- Basic technical data such as your IP address and device type, used for security and rate limiting.
Who processes it
- Google Gemini reads uploaded photos to identify stalls.
- Google Places provides ratings and nearby listings. When you add a place, your location is sent to find it.
- Cloudflare carries traffic to the site and protects it from abuse.
The site and its database are hosted in Singapore.
How long we keep it
- Photos are deleted 30 days after they are read. A small crop of the signboard may be kept as the stall icon.
- Photos that could not be read are kept until they are read or removed.
- Votes, dish picks and reports are kept while the stall is listed.
- The device cookie expires after 400 days. You can clear it in your browser at any time.
Your rights
Under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act you can ask to access or correct your data, or withdraw consent. Email [email protected] and we will reply within 30 days.
